Angioplasty and Stenting

Vascular & Endovascular Treatment

Angioplasty & Stenting

Angioplasty and Stenting is a minimally invasive treatment used to open narrowed or blocked blood vessels and improve blood circulation. The procedure uses a thin catheter, balloon and, when required, a small metal stent to restore and maintain blood flow through the affected artery or vein.

What Is Angioplasty & Stenting?

During angioplasty, a balloon catheter is carefully guided through the blood vessel to the site of narrowing or blockage. The balloon is inflated to widen the vessel and improve blood flow. In selected cases, a stent may be placed to act as a supportive scaffold and help keep the vessel open.

The procedure is performed under imaging guidance, allowing the specialist to precisely identify and treat the affected blood vessel.

When Is Angioplasty & Stenting Recommended?

Angioplasty and stenting may be considered for patients with significant narrowing or blockage affecting blood circulation. Depending on the location, it can be used for conditions such as:

  • Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD)
  • Narrowed or blocked leg arteries
  • Carotid artery stenosis
  • Narrowing of dialysis fistulas or grafts
  • Certain venous blockages
  • Other vascular conditions affecting blood flow

For peripheral artery disease, treatment decisions depend on symptoms, the location and severity of the blockage, imaging findings and the patient's overall health.

How Is the Procedure Performed?

A small catheter is introduced through a blood vessel, commonly through the groin or another suitable access site. Using live X-ray imaging, the catheter is guided to the narrowed artery. Contrast dye may be used to visualise the blood vessels.

A balloon is then positioned across the blockage and briefly inflated to widen the vessel. If necessary, a stent is placed to help maintain the improved blood flow.

Benefits of Angioplasty & Stenting

As a minimally invasive procedure, angioplasty and stenting generally involves a small access point rather than a major surgical incision. It may help improve circulation, reduce symptoms and restore blood flow in appropriately selected patients.

Personalised Vascular Care

Every vascular blockage requires individual assessment. Dr. Avichala Taxak provides specialised evaluation and minimally invasive vascular treatment based on the patient's symptoms, medical history and imaging findings.

If you have been diagnosed with a blocked or narrowed blood vessel, timely specialist evaluation can help determine whether angioplasty and stenting is appropriate for you.

Why Choose Expert Care?

Safe and effective angioplasty and stenting require accurate diagnosis, careful assessment of the blockage, and experienced procedural care under imaging guidance. Modern endovascular techniques and stent systems can help specialists treat complex vascular disease with greater precision.

If you have been diagnosed with a blocked or narrowed blood vessel, consult an experienced vascular or interventional specialist to determine whether angioplasty and stenting is appropriate for you.

Every patient needs an individual assessment.

Angioplasty and stenting may be appropriate for some patients, while another treatment may be better for others. A detailed evaluation helps determine the most suitable approach for your condition.
